Tributary of Huong river, Thua Thien-Hue province, Vietnam

81th place in Biotope Aquarium Design Contest 2019

Czech Republic. Michal Klacek

Volume: 180 L
Dimensions: 100x40x45 cm
List of fishes: Sewellia lineolata
List of plants: Evolvulus sp., Potos sp.
Description of decorations: The bottom consists of river sand 1-10mm, stones of various sizes and driftwood are used
Description of equipment: Filtration consists of pumping head JKA-IP203 and biomolitan cube of size 20x10x10 cm, light is used fluorescent Atman AT 130B and 2x 40W fluorescent tubes
Water parameters: pH 6.5, 24 ° C temperature, PPM 130, TDS 260uS
Additional info: The aquarium is prospering, it just does not manage to grow biofilm on the stones. Despite this, sewellia regularly grows and thrives. I would like to point out that Evolveus does not primarily belong to the surface, but occurs on the banks and often extends into the water where its shoots are pulled by the current.

INFORMATION ABOUT BIOTOPE

Description of the area surrounding the biotope: This stream is located west of the city of Hue in Hương Hà, H Trng Trà, Thua Thien-Hue, Vietnam. It flows through a hilly, mountainous landscape covered with forests. It is formed by the confluence of several small streams about 6 km west of the mouth to the Huong River.
The banks are lined with dense forest with lots of grass, ferns, shrubs and mature trees. There are representatives of the genera Argyreia, Evolvus, Ipomoea, Merremia, Porana, Dipterocarpaceae, Podocarpus and many other species of leafy and coniferous trees. Nearby is a relatively large mining pit for mineral resources.

Description of the underwater landscape of the biotope: Sewellies occur in shallow very fast parts of the stream with markedly oxygenated water. The water is extremely pure, clear without color or with only a slight brown color. The base is mostly rocky, consisting of smooth stones, in some places sand. In the water there are limited fallen leaves and driftwood. Aquatic plants do not occur.

Description of the parameters of the habitat: Ph can vary depending on the season and the amount of rainfall, ranging from 6-7.5. This also applies to water hardness and may range from 18-180 PPM. The temperature ranges from 20-24 ° C

List of fishes and invertebrates occurring in the nature biotope: Sewellia lineolata, Annamia normani, Balitora sp., Schistura sp., Glyptothorax sp., Anguilla marmorata a Rhinogobius sp.

List of plants found in the nature biotope: They do not occur

Threats to the ecology: There is no direct threat to the biotope in this area, even though there is a stone quarry nearby and it is possible that it will grow over time and that there is a risk of further deforestation of the landscape. And since the typical habitat of Sewellia is a rocky bedrock, there is a certain risk.
