INFORMATION ABOUT BIOTOPE

Description of the area surrounding the biotope: Kahang river is located at upper part of Johor between Endau Rompin National Park and Berlumut mountain Forest Recreational Forest 8meter from sea level. Its flows from Berlumut mountain to Endau river before reaching sea at 140km. Kahang river is one of the important source of water for people living nearby which is people used for rice field and oil palm plantation.

Description of the underwater landscape of the biotope: Freshwater from mountain flow thru sand and stone reaching river in crystal clear condition before travel along the main river. Driftwood, brunches and dead leaf was carried river flow and stop when it stuck to the crytocoryne plant and rock. Fauna take those stuck wood and brunches as their shelter and hiding from predator.

Description of the parameters of the habitat: Water is clear and sometimes cloudy due to erosion at the hill. Habitats is neutral between pH 6.5-7.5.The temperature range between 22°C to 28°C.

Threats to the ecology: The aquarium was set up to attract public attention especially Malaysian to the problem of contruction of Kahang dam that can be treat the flora and fauna habitat along Kahang River especially smaller stream. The natural flow of biotope dry and wet season will totally change follow the Dam schedule. Some of fauna will travel from upstream to downstream for breeding also will be affected. This could treat some of flora and fauna to be extinct.
