INFORMATION ABOUT BIOTOPE

Description of the area surrounding the biotope: Halda River is a river in south-eastern Bangladesh.[1] It originates at the Badnatali Hill Ranges in Ramgarh Upazila in the Chittagong Hill Tracts, flows through Fatikchhari Upazila, Bhujpur Thana, Hathazari Upazila, Raozan Upazila and Chandgaon Thana of the Chittagong Metropolitan City, and falls into the Karnaphuli River.[2][3] The 81-kilometre (50 mi) long river has a very turbulent tributary, the Dhurung River, which joins Purba Dhalai about 48 kilometres (30 mi) downstream. The river is navigable by big boats 29 km into it (up to Nazir Hat) and by small boats 16–24 km further (up to Narayanhat). The Halda reaches up 21 feet (6.4 m) in depth and 30 feet (9.1 m) in deepest point.spilling over into adjoining croplands and eventually finding its way into the canal. tree leaves n decaying leaf palm leaves scattered around the area.

Description of the underwater landscape of the biotope: This specific biotope is a small creek in the halda river bank sand stone . It substrate consists predominantly of fine black sand, with some palm leaf forest leaves and organic matter. Few smaller rocks covered w/algae occur. This aquarium is dedicated to the densely forested area, hence many branches decaying leaves dominate this scenery.

Description of the parameters of the habitat: Water of this biotope is tea coloured and quite clear. The average temperature is 26°C, with only little variation due to the tropical climate and the overhanging forest. Water is typically soft and acidic. TDS 10-15 mg/l.

List of fishes and invertebrates occurring in the nature biotope: Trichogaster chuna, Cyprinidae, Gobiidae, Palaemonidae, Penaeidae.
