Turkey. Timur Tekbaş
Volume: 190 L
List of fishes: Pseudotropheus demasoni, Iodotropheus sprengerae
Biotope description: The aquarium was set up based on a biotope of Yofu Bay, Likoma Island. The bay is full of colorful cichlids that eat algae from large stones, which are the main part of the underwater landscape.
Absolutely my favourite in this category. The rocks on sides of the tank create an amazing impression of looking at a natural break between two larger fragments of rocks, which extends into open water. Also, did you notice the small cave, with bottom lower than bottom the rest of the tank, on the right side of the aquarium in the foreground? Absolutely amazing! (People usually make the central part of the bottom to be the lowest.)
Of all the entries set up based on Lakes Tanganyika and Malawi (including previous years), this is the most attractive. All is identical: bottom, stones, design, and fish. Did you noticed that fish shown on the picture swim near the bottom, stones, and do not swim in the open water as in many entries? That is how they behave in nature. Bravo.
