INFORMATION ABOUT BIOTOPE

Description of the area surrounding the biotope: Chisanse fishing village was located on north side of Nkamba bay. It is part of Sumbu national Park. Permits to fish from Chisanse are issued by the Zambian Wildlife Authority (ZAWA) on recommendations given by the local Community Resources Board and strict rules are imposed to ensure no commercial fishing takes place in the restricted area, no alcohol is kept in Chisanse or used by any fishermen and no women and children are allowed in the village after sunset.

Description of the underwater landscape of the biotope: The beach consists of fine sand and rocks. Plants are rare.

Description of the parameters of the habitat: 24-28° C, GH 9, KH 28,5, pH 8,5-9,0.

List of fishes and invertebrates occurring in the nature biotope: Altolamprologus calvus, Julidochromis regani, Lamprologus ocellatus, Neolamprologus modestus, Ophthalmotilapia ventralis.

List of plants found in the nature biotope: N/A

Threats to the ecology: This setup is made to atttract attention to the problem of engangered species like Altolaprologus calvus “yellow”.
